3 Reasons you Need Extra PINs for your Alarm System

If you’ve got an alarm system or are thinking about getting one for your home, you need to consider how many PINs you want. You might be thinking you just need one, but that’s not strictly true.

What is a PIN?

A PIN is a unique personal identification number that means only you can turn off your alarm system. You should keep it to yourself to ensure that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, but if you’ve got lots of people coming in and out of your house that can be difficult. That’s where multiple PINs come in.

Different PINs for different people

Lots of alarm systems allow you to have different PINs for different people, so you can control your system and see who is coming and going. Read on to find out 3 reasons why you should consider using extra PINs.

1. Keep track of your family

A lot of alarm systems allow you to have as many as 5 PINs. So provided you don’t have a large family, every child could have their own PIN.

Many systems send you a text or email when the PIN owner disarms the alarm, so you’ll know they’ve arrived home. This is a great way to keep your mind at ease when the kids are home alone.

2. Know when people running errands for you are there

If you have people that come into your home for work, such as childminders, cleaners or dog walkers, consider giving them a separate PIN. This way, you’ll know when they enter your home and when they exit.

Another good thing about giving outsiders separate PINs is that when they no longer need access to your home, you can just delete their PIN. Then your security will never be compromised.

3. You’ll stay in control of your home

Systems that allow you to create multiple PINs normally let you have different settings for each member. You can set PINs belonging to your cleaner or dog walker to have basic permissions, so they won’t be able to add or remove PINs themselves. You can also restrict them from changing any settings on your alarm system.

Whilst you may be giving other people access to your home, you won’t be giving them access to your alarm system. You’ll always be safe in the knowledge that you are in control of your home’s security.

If you’re considering an alarm system for your home, see if you can get one with additional PIN features. It’s the easiest and safest way to secure your home and monitor who is coming in and out.
